The long wait for noise cancelling AirPods has come to an end. These beautiful in-earbuds are called the AirPods Pro. They are packed with features but are weighing just under 0.2 ounces (5.4 grams). So let’s get into it.
The headphones feature high quality audio features including Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) Mode, Transparency Mode, Adaptive EQ (AEQ), vent system for pressure equalization, custom high-excursion driver, and custom high dynamic range amplifier. The ANC Mode and Transparency Mode on these headphones come hand-and-hand. While in ANC Mode you hear nothing around you, just your favorite artist’s new hit song. Then with a press and hold on the ear buds’ button you’ll be able to hear everything going on around you. The vent system in these ear buds minimize the discomfort that you find in other in-earbuds. The high-excursion driver and high dynamic range amplifier help the quality of these in-earbuds sound crisp and fluent throughout the most vigorous sounding songs or movies.
These in-earbuds feature dual beam forming microphones, inward-facing microphones, dual optical sensors, motion-detecting accelerometer, speech-detecting accelerometer, and a force sensor making it possible to talk to your best friend over the phone while walking through the loudest city.
The H-1 based Chip is in the AirPods Pro. This is the same chip that is inside the Beats Powerbeats Pro, second generation AirPods, and the Beats Solo Pro. It lets you say Hey Siri to your iPhone.
The AirPods Pro are most definitely not waterproof. It is not recommended to swim or shower with them on. They are on designed to be sweat and water resistant aka the IPX4. AirPods Pro are most likely protected by small, accidental water splashes.
The size of one AirPod Pro is 1.22in (30.9mm) tall, 0.86in (21.88mm) wide, and 0.94in (24.00mm) deep. One weighs approximately 0.19 ounces (5.4g). The case is 2.39in (60.6mm) wide, 1.78in (45.2mm) tall, and 0.85in (21.7mm) deep. The cases weighs approximately 1.61 ounces (45.6g).
You charge your AirPods Pro case with Qi-certified wireless chargers or with the outdated Lightning charging cables. But you do get up to 4.5 hours of listening time with a single charge with ANC and Transparency or 5 hours with them off. 3.5 hours while talking on a single charge. With the Wireless Charging Case you get more than 24 hours of listening time and 18 hours of talk time. The biggest hint is that if you put your AirPods Pro in the case you get about an hour of listening/talk time.
When you get your AirPods Pro, you will probably want to know how to use them as they can get confusing. You press the button once to play, pause, or answer a phone call. Press the button twice quickly to skip forward. Press the button three times to skip backwards. To switch between ACN and Transparency Modes press and hold the button. If you want to talk to Siri, just say “Hey Siri”.
One thing that stuck out to me when looking over the AirPods Pro page over at the website is that they are advertising that they are trying to reduce the environmental impact that their products undertake. The AirPods Pro are all brominated flame retardant-free, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) free, and beryllium-free. These are all chemicals that are either extremely rare to find or have harmful effects on the environment.
