RECTANGLE us proposal limit data flow to china

A proposal from the GOP senator of Missouri, Josh Hawley would not only prevent TikTok from collecting information on its American users but would also limit Apple from storing user data in China.

The bill called the National Security and Personal Data Protection Act would force companies such as Apple to receive State Department approval for its user data dealings in China.

Hawley calls it a national security threat, in historical context, last year Apple shifted all of its data on its Chinese users to state-run Chinese servers, yet, Apple says they are the only ones with access to the encryption keys.
