JPMorgan is reporting that Apple is looking to acquire Broadcom’s wireless chip business which specializes in radio frequency, wireless communication, Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS chips.

The chip business contributed $2.2 billion to the overall company revenue in 2019. With Apple aiming to reduce its dependency on Qualcomm which currently supplies the majority of its chips and connection systems, Broadcom is a key player for the iPhone maker.

Although not all is confirmed, Creative Strategies analyst Ben Bajarin shared on Twitter that Apple has already been conducting research on its own chip technology reducing the likeliness of a full purchase of Broadcom’s business.
