Apple has released the brand new iPhone SE, a follow up to the 2016 iPhone SE and the iPhone 8. It keeps many of the same features including Touch ID, a 4.7-inch display, and a similar design to the iPhone 8.

It does not have a headphone jack to no surprise despite some hoping it would. It has “aerospace-grade aluminum and durable glass design with an all-black front, and has the Apple logo in the center. As for the screen, it has a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with HDR 10 support and no 3D Touch.

It has an A13 Bionic chip, joining the ranks of the newest flagships. Despite the over-marketing, the new iPhone SE will deliver the same performance as the iPhone 11 lineup. It also features dual sim, nano-SIM, and e-SIM alongside Wifi 6. 1

As for battery life, Apple says users should expect around the same battery as the iPhone 8 with up to 13 hours of video playback, 8 hours of streaming, and 40 hours of audio playback. The iPhone SE does support wireless charging and fast charging. Apple says it can charge 50% in 30 minutes but does not include a fast charger out of the box.

As for the camera , it has a single camera setup. It features a 12-megapixel f/1.8 aperture wide camera, it is capable of 4K recording at 60FPS, and also supports portrait lighting/mode. Apple says the new A13 chip works with the camera to:

unlock even more benefits of computational photography, including Portrait mode, all six Portrait Lighting effects and Depth Control.5 Using machine learning and monocular depth estimation, iPhone SE also takes stunning Portraits with the front camera. Next-generation Smart HDR comes to iPhone SE, intelligently re-lighting recognized subjects in a frame for more natural-looking images with stunning highlight and shadow details

It comes in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models in black, white and (PRODUCT)RED and it starts at $399. It goes for pre-orders on April 17th and goes on sale on the 24th of April.

We’ve been hearing about this new iPhone for months, some were hoping it would dispense of the notch, and go with Face ID. Those people would be disappointed, instead what we got is Apple reviving an old segment of its demographic. People love the 4.7-inch form size, that with the performance of the iPhone 11, and a great camera makes it a hard to beat bargain for only $399.
