Backing earlier reports, Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo reports today that Apple is working on a 3rd generation AitPods that will enter mass production in the 1st half of this year. As for the design, he says it will follow the “system in package” from the AirPods Pro, but other than the internal boost, there will be no design change.
The third-generation AirPods will go to mass production in 1H20, and the most significant change of the internal design of this new model is the adoption of SiP to replace the rigid-flex PCB+SMT design of second-generation AirPods. We believe that Apple will pull in this new model because of the declining demand for second-generation AirPods. Luxshare ICT will be the main supplier for this new model.
As MacRumors points out, there have been rumors of a new AirPods Pro model without the Active Noise Cancelation, but Kuo does not mention any such device in his report.
