Today, Apple announced they ordered a new show starring Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell. The show, titled “The Shrink Next Door,” is a dark comedy based on the same-name podcast that details true events and tells the relationship between celebrity psychiatrist Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Paul Rudd) and his patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Will Ferrell). The show looks into the relationship between the two and the bizarre events that occur, as well as the manipulation of Marty as his doctor invades and takes over his life.
The show also features well-known producers, as Apple detailed in their press release:
“The Shrink Next Door” is produced by Civic Center Media in association with MRC Television, Gloria Sanchez Productions, Semi-Formal Productions, Wondery and Bloomberg Media. Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Brittney Segal will executive produce for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rudd and Pritchett will also serve as executive producers. Showalter and Jordana Mollick will executive produce on behalf of Semi-Formal Productions. Marshall Lewy for Wondery and Jared Sandberg, Katie Boyce and Francesca Levy for Bloomberg Media will serve as executive producers, with the podcast’s host Joe Nocera as co-executive producer.
The comedy series was given a straight-to-series order and will be eight episodes. It will be directed by Michael Showalter and written by Georgia Pritchett. It debuts globally on Apple TV+, and marks the first time Rudd and Ferrell have worked together on a film or show since “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”
