As Apple preps for an iPhone 12 launch in September/October, more information about the products lineup and supply chain is starting to seep through the news waves. Today DigiTimes in a paywalled report says that Samsung will produce nearly 80% of displays for the upcoming iPhone lineup:
Samsung Display reportedly have obtained the majority of AMOLED panel orders needed for the production of Apple’s 2020 iPhone lineup, with LG Display and BOE Technology sharing the remaining orders, according to industry sources.
As for the remaining 20%, it is expected to be LG Display and BOE. Samsung isn’t new to the iPhone display market, officially handing over its OLED technology with the release of the iPhone X. What remains unknown from the report is which models amongst the lineup it will produce.
However, previous reports from Apple leaker Jon Prosser says that the higher-end iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will use Samsung’s OLED panels, with the Phone 12 and 12 Max opting for BOE.
