Deadline exclusively reports that Apple, after a furious “tug of war” battle has won the derby to team up with Paramount for the film Killers Of The Flower Moon with the one and only Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.
Deadline says that the deal is still being worked on, however, in its current stage, it’ll be an Apple original film with Paramount distributing theatrically worldwide. Paramount originally got the project from Imperative Entertainment, however recently the managers for the leading actors wanted to move elsewhere.
It adds that the movie was much-sought-out for, with Universal, MGM, and even Netflix all bidding for it; Apple winning at the end. Apple will finance the film and lead its creative side. It’ll be available on Apple TV+, and Paramount will premiere it in theaters around the world.
This marks the 2nd film Apple has secured, previously being Greyhound with Tom Hanks. Apple is facing increasing competition from Netflix who has a growing catalog of original films. A report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple is looking to buy older films and movies, and redistribute them on Apple TV+.
