In a note seen by MacRumors today, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the iPhone 12 won’t ship with a power adapter or earphones (previously reported) in the box. Kuo says that instead of shipping a charger with it, Apple will produce a 20W standalone accessory, phasing out the 5W and 18W power adapters.
In the same note as reported by MacRumors, Kuo also says that Apple will stop including the 5W charger in the box with the 2020 iPhone SE. Kuo says that Apple will continue to provide a power adapter for the lower-end iPad models, iPad Air, and iPad Mini until they’re phased out.
Earlier this week in a note to investors Barclays also said that Apple will not include a charger or earphones in the box. Apple’s reasoning could be multiple. Firstly, the lightning cable has been around for a while, and frankly, everyone has a few of them laying around the house. Not including them in the box would not only make it lighter, therefore more eco-friendly, it would also push customers to Apple’s rumored AirPower.
