Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo in a note to investors seen by Apple Terminal says that a brand new 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with an Apple Silicon will enter production in Q4 of 2020. Kuo also states 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with new designs will enter production in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2021.
Kuo in the report states that that 14 and 16-inch models will feature new designs, however, does not state a design revamp for the 13-3 inch model. Mass production of an Apple Silicon-based MacBook Air will begin in Q4 of 2020, or Q1 of 2021 according to the note. While Kuo does not state a release timeframe for any of the new Macs, he does offer a possible scenario. He says that if Apple is able to lower the price of the new MacBook Air and maintain momentum with the redesigned MacBook Pros, then he expects a “MacBook” sometime in 2021. He does not specfic any further.
The transition to Apple-based SIlicon Macs will be a major boost to Apple’s Mac suppliers according to the analysts. Based on momentum from 2021 MacBook Pro models, shipments will be between 18 and 20 million units vs. the 2020s 16-17 million.
