New images allegedly show a redesigned wireless charging coil with magnets within the chassis and casing for the iPhone 12.
The images first appearing on Weibo show a different design than the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 features a more circular and wider coil, making it easier to wirelessly charge. Close-ups of the coil show a magnetic border and base that could be used for the rumored AirPower or as EverythingApplePro suggests, possible “snap-in” charging or a mounting solution. An additional image shows an iPhone 12 protective case that seems to have the same charging coil with the magnets as the chassis itself
The new magnets could be used for mounting the iPhone 12 onto a mounting stand or some type of integration with the rumored restart of AirPower. A rumor suggests that the iPhone 12’s PVT, or Product Verification Test is complete, meaning the final design of the handset should surface anytime soon.
The new device is rumored to have squared off edges, and a smaller notch, faster Face ID, 5G support, and the unlikely possibility of Pro Motion Display. Apple’s also expected to bring the LiDAR sensor from the iPad Pro onto the iPhone alongside an updated suite of cameras.
