LG Japan announced today that all their TVs from 2019 onwards will be supporting the Apple TV app with a software update coming on August 11th. They also added that the 2018 model TVs are planned to get the update coming in 2020.
LG is the first Smart TV brand to support the Apple TV app natively in Japan. Contents will be compatible with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos which can be played in TVs supporting them. The target series of supporting Tvs are – All organic EL TVs and LCD TVs released in Japan from 2018 to the present.
Currently, the Apple TV app is available in Samsung, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and LG with limited models supporting the same. With Apple continually working on new content to add to their Apple TV+ streaming platform to compete with Netflix and Disney Plus and the way things are with the pandemic, we can be optimistic that the support for more TVs will be coming very soon.
