Mark Zuckerberg says the App Store “deserves scrutiny” and praises Android for sideloading apps

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is continuing his attacks towards Apple and the App Store as the company faces a tough battle against Epic Games and others. In an interview with Axios, the CEO of the social media giant says that Apple has “unilateral control of what gets on phones, in terms of apps.”

I think it’s probably about 50% of Americans who have smart phones, and a lot more people around the world. I think there are more than a billion Apple devices,” Zuckerberg said in an interview with Axios’ Mike Allen.

Zuckerberg goes on to state that the App Store deserves scrutiny, and that Apple is “getting scrutiny.” However, he refuses to specify whether the App store should face more regulation, or government investigations saying “I think I’m not necessarily the person to answer that.”

Facebook has escalated its tensions with Apple, firstly criticizing an iOS 14 feature that would slash its ad-business by nearly 50% and attacking Apple at a company-wide meeting. All of this comes as Apple faces a tense battle with Epic Games over the App Store, with countries and government also stepping up their anti-trust investigations into the tech-giant.
