In a series of updates today, Apple informed developers that they can now submit apps built using the Xcode 12 GM seed for iOS and iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14 to the App Store. Apple also announced that beginning April of 2021, all apps submitted to the App Store must support the latest iOS, watchOS, and tvOS SDK and must be built using Xcode 12.
Apple notes to developers for iOS and iPadOS 14 reads:
Make sure your apps are ready when iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 become available to customers worldwide. Give users a quick way to engage with a part of your app at the right moment with App Clips. Let users experience your app right on their iPhone home screen with new widgets. Bring your ideas to life with new features and more realistic augmented reality experiences using ARKit and RealityKit. And much more.
Build your apps using Xcode 12 GM seed, test them on devices running iOS 14 and iPadOS GM seed, and submit them for review. Starting April 2021, all iOS and iPadOS apps submitted to the App Store must be built with Xcode 12 and the iOS 14 SDK.
Apple announced at its “Time Flies” Special Keynote event that iOS and iPadOS 14, alongside watchOS 7 and tvOS 14 will ship to the public on Wednesday, September 16th. Shortly after the keynote, Apple released the golden master of iOS/iPadOS 14 and watchOS 7. Thanks to the timing, developers have been given less than 24 hours to ensure their apps are updated to support iOS 14’s latest features before its public roll-out on Sept. 16th.
