Since the launch of iOS and iPadOS 14 last week there has been this ongoing online trend where people are battling it out for who can have the most aesthetically pleasing homescreen. The introduction of widgets has given iOS users more freedom than ever before to customize their homescreens beyond wallpapers and folders.

One of the apps mainly used to share designs and get inspiration has been Pinterest. Launched in 2010, the app has become the place for finding new ideas ranging from living room design concepts to now even iOS homescreens. App data from Apptopia shows that following the launch of iOS 14, downloads of Pinterest has skyrocketed.

According to the data, Pinterest saw its highest number of daily downloads on September 21st with a staggering 616,000 new downloads. Sensor Tower, another market intelligence service says that the record was instead broken the day before with 800,000 new installs around the world on both iOS and Android. Pinterest confirmed to TechCrunch that there has been an increase in usage of the app from “Gen Z” users during the past week.

“There has been an increase in searches for iOS 14 wallpapers and homescreen design this week by Gen Z users, a demographic group that grew 50% year-over-year in June 2020,” a Pinterest spokesperson told TechCrunch. “These Pinners often use Pinterest as a resource for aesthetic inspiration and decorating offline spaces like bedrooms, so it’s interesting to see them seek inspiration for their online spaces, too,” they added.

Pinterest also jumped in App Store ranking from #47 on the Top Free charts for Friday, September 18th, to #7 just 2 days later followed by #6 the next day. TechCrunch notes that the app may have hit the #1 Top Free apps spot but not long enough for any App Store intelligence service to detect.

Pinterest is tapping into the trend showcasing one of its “Daily inspirations” collections with trending wallpaper and aesthetic homescreen ideas. The collection showcases some popular ideas for iOS 14 homescreens with the use of custom widgets and wallpapers.
