On Thursday New York Andrew Cuomo announced that New York has launched its official COVID19 contact tracing app, using the Apple and Google exposure notification API.

“What this app will do is it will tell you if you are within six feet of a person who tested positive, and if you were within six feet of a person who tested positive for 10 minutes,” said Cuomo during a phone press conference, of the free program, called “COVID Alert.”

The app will work with contact tracing apps in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, allowing each state to transfer data across borders in case residents decide to travel.
