Samsung and Xiaomi poke fun at Apple for something they’ll end up doing themselves

In 2016 when Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus the internet blew up. The company said the move was done because it has “courage,” and now looking at the past 4 years, it was right.

See, Apple is the most popular brand in the world. With that title comes the responsibility that whatever it does, others will follow. Following the iPhone 7’s announcement, many of its competitors such as Samsung poked fun at Apple for removing the headphone jack. Not shockingly, 3 years later Samsung removed the headphone jack from its lineup.

With the launch of the iPhone 12, Apple is once again taking the “courageous” step and is removing the headphone and charger from all of its iPhone boxes. As expected, the internet blew up with memes criticizing the move by Apple, merely ignoring the fact that by removing the charger and headphone the box Apple will reduce carbon emissions by 2 million metrics to each year. Furthermore, everyone already has a charger and wire somewhere in their house.

Also as expected, Samsung and Xiaomi are poking fun at the lack of thicker iPhone boxes. Samsung’s Latin account posted a tweet of its smartphone charger saying ” Your #Galaxy gives you what you are looking for. From a charger to the best camera, battery, performance, memory, and even 120Hz display.” As for Xiaomi, the company posted a video of someone unboxing their latest flagship to reveal a charger, with the caption “Don’t worry, we didn’t leave anything out of the box”.

It’s rather ironic that the same companies that are making fun of Apple now, are the same ones that will follow Apple leads. Besides the environmental benefits that Apple is promoting, it also saves space and cost. Due to the lack of a charger and headphone the box of the new iPhones are drastically smaller, meaning more can be shipped in a single shipping container, leading to less shipping costs for Apple and its partners.
