Both models share many of the same features such as an updated design, 5G cellular support, and the A14 Bionic chip. They differ however in certain camera features such as the iPhone 12 Pro featuring a telephoto lens, and LiDAR. LiDAR is Apple’s next-generation lens that is able to measure depth and distance for augmented reality and is only available on the iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The new iPhones are expected to sell out quickly as pre-orders in Taiwan on October 14th sold out in less than 45 minutes, and analysts are expecting a huge wave of upgrades thanks to the iPhone 12’s updated design and 5G support.
The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, announced last week are two out of 4 in the entire 2020 iPhone lineup. The 2 other models, the 12 mini and 12 Pro Max will begin pre-orders on November 6th, and beginning shipping on the 13th. The iPhone 12 which is the mid-range 6.1-inch model starts at $799, and the 12 Pro starts at $999. The iPhone 12 starts with a base storage of 64GB, and the iPhone 12 Pro begins at 128GB.
