iOS 14 resets default apps after App Store updates

One of the first major bugs of iOS and iPadOS 14 was the fact that default email and browser apps would automatically reset whenever users would restart their device. Apple fixed the bug in the iOS 14.0.1 update, but now it seems there’s a new bug that’s related to default apps.

The Verge reports that whenever users update a default email or browser app via the App Store, it resets that apps setting as a default app. For example, if you have Gmail set as your default email app, after updating the Gmail app via the App Store, iOS resets your email app to the stock Apple Mail app.

The issue is still present in the iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1 update that was released yesterday, Apple Terminal is working to verify if the issue is still present in iOS 14.2 beta 4, and Apple has been contacted for comment. This article will be updated once they respond.
