Months after renewed hope that Apple was focusing back on AirPower, one year after it had publicly scrapped the project, leaker Jon Prosser is now reporting that there is no hope. In a tweet today Prosser states that Apple has removed AirPower from its agenda for next year, with very slim chances that it’ll be added once again.
While shocking, with the release of the iPhone 12 and MagSafe, it was somewhat expected. Apple’s reintroduction of MagSafe on the iPhone seemed as somewhat of a confirmation that the company feels that technology is what’ll drive its wireless future.
However, there is still some hope that AirPower could make an appearance, under a different brand. Bloomberg reported earlier this year that Apple is working on a “less ambitious‘ wireless charger compared to AirPower. Whether that remains in production and testing given Prosser’s new reporting remains unknown.
