Apple has updated the app for iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS to version 3.0. This updates allows for automatic updates, as well as stability improvements and bug fixes.

With TestFlight now allowing automatic updates, developers will be able to ensure beta testers of their apps are always testing the latest version whereas currently it was up to the beta tester whether they installed the updated version. It is important to note however that this feature is optional and users are prompted to opt into it on iPadOS and iOS with a new splash screen when launching the app. Beta tester are also able to enable automatic updates per app as well, rather than having automatic updates enabled for all. For TestFlight users on tvOS, you will have to enable the setting to allow automatic updates within the app settings,

Apple’s release notes for the new version of TestFlight:

  • Support for automatic updates, ideal for ensuring you’re always testing the latest beta build
  • Stability improvements and bug fixes.
